Deployable Robots

Origami deployable structures have unique characteristics that can be folded into compact forms and transformed into large functional shapes. Leveraging these features, we have created robots that show enhanced portability and mobility when folded and diverse functions when deployed. We use a variety of materials (from rigid to soft and compliant) in the construction and harness material properties to extend functionalities. Above all, our primary interest is developing deployable machines capable of bearing large loads, thereby enabling them to perform a wider range of tasks. Recently, we have been focused on scaling up our designs so that these machines can be used in various real-world scenarios.
